A new innovation zone
The government will soon unveil a fifth innovation zone, the Zone d’innovation minière (mining innovation zone), in Rouyn-Noranda in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This zone will concentrate Quebec’s expertise in mining innovation.
It will prioritize two areas of research and development:
- the autonomous mine, which notably targets data mastery and use as well as the development of artificial intelligence and connected equipment;
- the sustainable mine, which aims to better align the needs of the mining industry with those of its host community, notably through responsible operations, land restoration and the social acceptability of projects.
